Covington Black History Tour
The Covington Black History Tour invites visitors to explore the people and places that shaped Northern Kentucky’s African American history. This self-guided walking experience follows a route of 10 stops and takes about 90 minutes to complete, moving through the city’s historic neighborhoods and riverfront.
Along the way, the tour highlights sites tied to educators, faith leaders, and community builders whose influence continues to resonate. Stops include the Lincoln Grant School, once a segregated school for Black children, Randolph Park, named for Dr. James Randolph, the first Black physician in Northern Kentucky, and nearby 9th Street Baptist Church.
More than a series of landmarks, the tour connects these locations through stories of resilience, leadership, and community. Each stop offers insight into the individuals and institutions that helped shape Covington across generations, creating a deeper understanding of the city’s past and present.
