Dog Days: Pet-Friendly Places in Sunny Florida

By Monique Danao

Many dog owners treat their furry friends as family, and for good reason.

Our dogs witness the ups and downs of our everyday life. We turn to them for comfort and play with them for fun and relaxation. Hence, it makes sense to involve them in our holiday plans too.

While not every establishment welcomes pets, we’ve found that St. Petersburg, Florida has a lot of beautiful destinations for pet lovers. Here are the top places that you can check out.

Shell Key Shuttle

In movies, we’ve seen dogs relish the feel of the wind on their fur as they watch the sunsets. You can witness this event in real-life by riding a 90-minute cruise in Shell Key Shuttle. The cruise begins from the stunning coastline of St. Pete Beach and ends at the islands of Pass-A-Grille.

The best part? Dogs can ride for free as long as one adult will accompany them. Interested travelers are advised to book reservations before they make a visit.

Crystal Bay Hotel

Those who want to frequent the hotels visited by celebrities should visit Crystal Bay Hotel. The masterfully restored pet-friendly destination can trace its origins back to 1915. It even received praise from famous icons like Babe Ruth, Robert Kennedy, and Marilyn Monroe.

The spacious rooms offer basic amenities, free Wifi, and fresh made-to-order meals. On the ground floor, two pets of any size are also welcome with no additional fee. You can learn more about this destination through TripAdvisor or their official website.

Fort De Soto Park

Outdoor lovers can play with their furry friends at the beach in Fort de Soto Park. The 1,136-acre park is made up of five interconnected islands. The park features lush green trees that complement the pristine beach.

Pets can run off-leash and make new friends while soaked on the warm tropical weather. There’s no need to worry about heatstroke because of dog-level water fountains and cooling stations.

Dog Bar

The Dog Bar is an all-in-one full-service bar and off-leash dog park. Pet owners will be happy to know that it features 2,000 square feet of fenced off-leash fun and a safe environment. While your dogs are making new friends, you can play Skee-ball, Connect Four, Corn Hole, Jenga or watch your favorite teams play on TV.

Since the Dog Bar is committed to creating safe spaces, they have strict requirements for visitors. Pet owners should bring copies of vaccines such as Bordetella, parvo, and rabies. Also, dogs must be non-aggressive and those that are more than 1 year old should be neutered or spayed.
