The “Big D” is home to bold flavors, vibrant art, and plenty of outdoor adventures. From walking tours and world-class museums to scenic parks and gondola rides, here are two ways to spend the day exploring Dallas, Texas.

Day 1: Foodie Tours & Cultural Attractions

Morning

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at Maple Leaf Diner. This legendary hotspot infuses Southern classics with Canadian flair, serving up everything from omelets and eggs benedict to pancakes and poutine. For a truly decadent start, order the chicken and waffles to find out why many locals say it’s the best in Dallas. Short on time? Pop by Sugar & Sage Bakery, a high-end patisserie with airy interiors, artisanal coffee, and irresistible baked goods. Pair a brown sugar latte with a flaky croissant or a savory breakfast sandwich.

Kick off your deep-dive into the city’s cultural attractions at the Dallas Museum of Art. Discover more than 25,000 pieces spanning five millennia. Wander through mesmerizing exhibits showcasing Ancient and Native American art, Asian masterpieces, and African artifacts. The best part? Admission is free, so you can explore everything from sculptures to modern installations without spending a dime.

Next, explore one of the country’s largest folk art collections at the African American Museum. Make your way through four vaulted galleries, where nearly sixty archival collections bring the African American experience to life. Check out fascinating artifacts, paintings, and sculptures that tell the stories of African American history and culture in the United States.

Afternoon

What better way to discover the culinary melting pot that is Dallas than on a walking food tour? Head to the quirky Deep Ellum district, where you’ll follow your guide through the art-filled streets. Sample award-winning Texas chili, juicy BBQ brisket, Tex-Mex classics, and nostalgic sweet treats. Come hungry and be prepared to leave stuffed!

Afterward, enjoy 360-degree city views from the indoor/outdoor observation deck at Reunion Tower. From the top of the iconic 470-foot tower, you’ll get a birds-eye view of famous Dallas landmarks like Dealey Plaza. It’s the perfect spot to snap a commemorative selfie, and don’t worry—you can get to the observation deck by elevator.

For your next stop, go to the Nasher Sculpture Center to feast your eyes on one of the world’s finest collections of modern and contemporary sculptures. Stroll through the massive galleries and outdoor sculpture garden to admire more than 300 masterpieces by renowned artists like Picasso and Matisse.

Evening

Grab dinner at Parigi for New American cuisine in a Parisian-inspired bistro. The menu changes bi-weekly to highlight seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients, so every visit feels fresh and new. Expect refined dishes like lobster risotto, veal Milanese, and braised pork collar in a warm, inviting atmosphere.

After dinner, catch a show at the Winspear Opera House. Grab a seat on one of the gold leaf-covered balconies and immerse yourself in the arts—whether it’s opera, ballet, or theater. Between the venue’s stunning design and world-class performances, you’re bound to have a memorable experience.

Prefer a more intimate end to the evening? Travel back to a bygone era at The Balcony Club, a hidden gem for jazz lovers in East Dallas. Slide into a velvet booth, sip martinis at your candlelit table, and embrace the vintage vibes and soulful tunes. If you’re visiting during the weekend, come early to get a good table.

Day 2: Outdoor Adventures in Dallas

Morning

Grab coffee at Ascension Coffee, a local favorite that pairs friendly service with slow-roasted coffee and wholesome bites. Sip a signature latte in flavors like lavender, salted caramel, or golden milk. Fuel up for the day’s adventures with a nourishing breakfast like avocado toast or chia seed pudding. Alternatively, treat yourself to a hearty brunch and rooftop views at HG Sply Co. The rustic-chic outpost boasts a relaxed, welcoming space with ample natural light and a lively patio. Indulge in Tex-Mex brunch staples like huevos rancheros and breakfast tacos.

After breakfast, walk or bike along the ultra-popular Katy Trail. The 3.5-mile trail runs through the center of Dallas and offers fantastic people-watching opportunities and city views. Then, get lost in nature at the Dallas Arboretum. Spanning 66 acres along White Rock Lake, this botanical paradise showcases seasonal blooms, waterfalls, and themed gardens. From Japanese maple trees to aromatic tea roses, this Dallas gem is a celebration of nature at its finest. Pro tip: Check the schedule before your visit to take advantage of seasonal events like summer concerts and holiday light displays.

For a more rugged outdoor experience, visit the Cedar Ridge Nature Preserve just outside of Dallas. Choose from nine miles of walking trails that range from easy to difficult, weaving through colorful wildflowers and native trees. Explore the buttery gardens and enjoy bird-watching—you may even spot the elusive black-capped Vireo.

Afternoon

If you’re looking for a casual spot to try inventive burgers, Rodeo Goat is a must. Grab a seat in the rustic dining room or opt for a picnic table on the dog-friendly patio. Try unique creations like the Sugar Burger – house-ground beef topped with candied bacon, grilled peaches, and jalapeno jam. Or, enjoy lunch at Garden Café to dine among the greenery. This charming eatery serves up Southern-style brunch fare in a garden patio setting where much of the produce is grown. Go big with the Nashville Hot sandwich or keep it light with a turkey cobb salad.

Looking for an adrenaline rush? Get your fill at Trinity Forest Adventure Park, where thrill-seekers of all ages will feel right at home. Navigate tight ropes, ladders, wobble bridges, and zip lines on the self-guided course of your choice. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced climber, there’s a course for everyone to face their fears.

For a more relaxing afternoon, unwind at Klyde Warren Park. Set over the Woodall Rodgers Freeway, this 5.2-acre urban park is a vibrant sanctuary in the middle of the city. There’s always something exciting to check out, from breakdancing battles and yoga classes to live music and holiday markets. Splash around in the interactive water feature, let your kids climb the treetop tower on the playground, and grab a snack from one of the food trucks lined up out front.

Evening

Savor dinner at Billy Can Can, an upscale Old West-inspired saloon boasting sophisticated dishes and craft cocktails. Start with the cast-iron cornbread, then choose between indulgent picks like the wild boar lasagna, red snapper with ratatouille, and whiskey-brined pork chop.

Head to Las Colinas to cap off your night with a romantic gondola ride through the canals of Lake Carolyn. Sip sparkling cider and gourmet chocolates as you take in the beauty of the city at night on this one-hour ride under the stars.
For a more light-hearted end to your one-day Dallas adventure, laugh the night away at the Dallas Comedy Club. Stop by for a stand-up performance, improv show, open-mic night, or even a hilarious dating game show. The venue has an extensive drink menu, so you can sip an espresso martini or a craft brew while enjoying the show.
