Gallery 101
Check out rotating exhibits featuring still photography, digital art displays, and more at Gallery 101 in The Depot Welcome Center. Featuring a vast collection of works, you’ll find everything from spectacular watercolors to stencils and advanced digital prints made on unique surfaces like glass!
Dick & Sheila Beaven Art Gallery
Tucked away in the new wing of the Henderson County Public Library, this stunning art gallery is home to rotating exhibitions by local and regional artists. From sculptures to photographs and paintings of flora, fauna and landscapes, it’s a great place to spend the afternoon. Plus, there are gorgeous views of the Ohio River!
Perch Pocket Park
If you love art, you don’t want to miss the gorgeous mural in Perch Pocket Park. Depicting Mother Nature immersed in the beauty of Henderson, the Discover Your Nature mural focuses on the local flora, fauna and wildlife. This mini-park also features a covered sitting area – perfect for a picnic.
Butler’s Apothecary
Sweet treats and history collide at this hometown pharmacy that’s located in one of the oldest buildings in downtown Henderson. In fact, it still has the original hardwood floors! Enjoy an ice cream float from the old-fashioned soda fountain. And be sure to snap a photo of the playful Butterfly Alley mural outside.
Audubon Museum & Nature Center
Depicting the life and work of famed artist and naturalist John James Audubon, this museum features three galleries and over 200 artifacts, objects and artwork on display. Be sure to check out the complete collection of his masterwork, The Birds of America!
Central Park
Henderson’s Central Park is the oldest municipal park east of the Allegheny Mountains. Check out the gorgeous fountain, a stunning work of art replicating the historic fountain that once stood in the park from 1963 to 1982. Picnic under a canopy of trees. Let the kids play on the charming playground. Or, take a sunset stroll on one of the many pathways.
The Rotunda at Henderson County Public Library
For a dose of local history and art, visit The Rotunda at Henderson County Public Library on Main Street. The library itself is a marvelous attraction – first opened in 1904 – the rotunda was restored in 2002 to reveal the full beauty of the hand-painted murals and stained-glass skylight. Under the dome, rotating exhibits inspire curious visitors and include historical artifacts that tell the story of Henderson.
Soaper-Liles House
Movie buffs and Madonna fans will love snapping a selfie in front of this historic home featured in the 1992 movie “A League of Their Own.” Who wouldn’t? It’s where the Rockford Peaches stayed! Built by William Soaper in the late 1800s, all of the home’s bricks were made on the property during construction. Please be respectful – this is a private residence, but photos are allowed.
Roast Coffee Bar
Prepare for a blast from the past at this popular coffee shop housed in the former barber shop of the historic Soaper Hotel. A groovy and retro-style joint, it still has the original 1924 black and white checkered floors! Enjoy a hot coffee or grab a bite like a fresh-baked scone.
