If you were stranded on an island what would be the one thing you’d take with you?
Togat Nusa isn’t necessarily your first thought of when shipwrecked, but it’s definitely remote and will make you feel like you’ve got the entire island to yourself. The island oasis sits “100 miles from most places” in the Indian Ocean, which means it’s quite the trek to get to tropical paradise. Believe us, the trek is totally worth it.
Today, Togat Nusa is a island retreat for Yoga, Surf, and healthy lifestyle enthusiasts. You don’t have to be any of those to stay here, but you will probably adapt to island life much faster if you are!
There are only 4 traditionally inspired bungalows available on the island for rent, all made of recycled material. Each bungalow sleeps 2, meaning it’s just you and 7 other people (maximum) at a time. Worried about lack of AC? They’ve got that too, but not how you’d think. Each sleeping quarters utilizes local Mentawai builders, maximizing the island surroundings to have optimal air flow.
The food? It’s local and one hell of a fresh experience thanks to location. But don’t think you have to give up on western food when you’re on island time. The islands Indonesian chef cooks up traditional and western foods utilizing the local resources.
If you’ve been to a beach in a tropical climate before, you won’t be shocked by weather. The temperature usually stays between 70 and 90 F, making it optimal for tons of outdoor activities or just having time to yourself walking along the island and relaxing in your bungalow.
