These destinations found creative ways for all of us to “visit” while we wait out the COVID-19 crisis. Tour famous British filming locations, get a behind-the-scenes look at Kentucky’s bourbon and horses, and discover how to make a real Philly Cheesesteak.

1. Health and Wellness in Saint Lucia

Lush rainforests and volcanic mud baths are the kind of escape all of us need right now. While we can’t physically visit this stunning Caribbean island, Travel Saint Lucia is still figuratively welcoming visitors with open arms by casting live demonstrations every Tuesday and Thursday. Tune in for a yoga flow in front of the famous volcanic Pitons, a traditional Saint Lucia cooking class, a live DJ party and a meditation session from the beach.

Each class is hosted by a solitary host and is done away from others (social distancing still applies to island-escape time). The demonstrations are gathered under the hashtag #7minutesinsaintlucia and will take place on their Instagram Live.

2. Puerto Rican Culture

Look, we’re all finding out that living in sweatpants isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Discover Puerto Rico is inviting the world to a virtual weekend getaway– and it’s as good a reason as any to break out a nice outfit and do yourself up.

A Weekend Getaway to Puerto Rico includes a salsa dancing class, a cocktail mixing lesson with a bartender from one of the World’s 50 Best Bars and a Puerto Rican cooking demonstration. The getaway is hosted via Zoom and Instagram Live and brings the knowledge of experts directly to your living room.

3. Film, Music and More in Great Britain

Big Ben, Harry Potter, the Beatles– the list could go on. For many of us, Great Britain is full of cultural touchstones. And while we can’t pay a visit to Buckingham Palace at the moment, Visit Britain is gathering resources for us to interact with and enjoy.

Explore filming locations for The Crown, learn how to make a traditional scone and help create the ultimate playlist of British music. Visit Britain is sharing these resources and more on its Instagram and Twitter.

4. Kentucky’s Bourbon, Bluegrass and Horses

The Bluegrass State might just help fill your travel-content bingeing needs. Kentucky Tourism is launching several episodic series about some of its most iconic staples. Pour up a glass of Kentucky-straight bourbon and watch how the pros distill “America’s Spirit” in the series “Distilled.” Baby horses capture our hearts in “Foal Play,” and several other series explore everything from the unique culinary scene to the music made in Kentucky, outdoor hotspots and handcrafted goods. Stream the episodes online and enjoy Kentucky– from a safe social distance.

5. Historical Stops in Philadelphia

Philadelphia has some of the most significant historical sites of the American Revolution including the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were signed. While we can’t climb the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art like Rocky, we can still visit many of these places from the safety of home.

Philadelphia CVB has launched “Philadelphia From Home,” a digital itinerary with experiences including the Eastern State Penitentiary, The Franklin Institute and even the Philadelphia Zoo. The guide has enough digital experiences to keep you busy for weeks and towards the bottom of the guide, there’s a simple recipe for the perfect cheesesteak.
