Bilyana Petrova wants you to travel more and worry less. Most of us want those two things, so how is this raspberry wine loving Bulgarian going to accomplish that? Through a little inspiration and some solid travel tips.
Petrova travels, mostly solo, whenever she can afford to. Petrova has explored bazaars in Morocco and climbed the highest peak in Bulgaria, among other exploits. She shares her itineraries, tips, and stories on her blog, Owl Over the World.
We talked to Petrova about her journeys, and he love for raspberry wine.
What is your earliest travel memory?
My earliest travel memories are camping with my family in one of the Bulgarian dames and also a cost town on the Black Sea named Tsarevo. This is the place where my parents met each other and we used to go there every summer.
Why do you travel?
I travel because I love falling in love in new and unknown places, different cultures, people that I would never see again. I travel because that makes me somehow a better person and because I learn things about myself that I wouldn’t otherwise. Oh, yes, and the food, of course.
What is your favorite travel memory?
I don’t think that I have just one favorite memory. I have so many wonderful memories that I cannot just choose one. Every memory is unique.
You said you’re addicted to raspberry wine. I’ve never heard of raspberry wine, can you tell me a little about it?
It all started one day when my best friend told me that she tried a great raspberry wine, which was brought to her by family friends. Of course, I was interested in it right away but her grandmother had already drunk it. Back then, I didn’t know where to find it so I can taste it but then after a while, it got pretty popular and now you can find it in many places around the country. There is nothing really special about it and I would say that it’s more like a girly drink but I just cannot resist it!
What are some of your hobbies/passions?
One of my favorite things to do is just to go for a walk in the forest with my brother and my dog. I also love reading and doing sports, although I haven’t practised anything recently (need to get back in shape).
What do you do when you’re not traveling?
Currently, I’m working as a social media manager for a brand in Barcelona and as a booking agent for an English company. I do both remotely, so that allows me to do them from anywhere in the world if I wish so.
Why did you choose to write in English?
So more people could read my blog!
Do you blog in your native language, Bulgarian?
Not yet, but I really want to start doing it. However, it’s so time-consuming to do it in one language, so imagine in two.
What are your travel plans for 2018?
Right now as I’m answering these questions, I’m traveling around and exploring the Philippines. After 4 weeks here, I’m heading to Hong Kong and then probably Malaysia and Singapore. Then, I’ll be back in Europe for a while. Generally, I have big travel plans for this year but as I don’t know yet if they’ll come true or not, I prefer to keep them for myself.
I’m always open to sharing a travel experience, stories and tips, so if you want to get in touch with me, do not hesitate – I would love to hear from you!
