Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Site

Explore the site of the birth and early childhood of President Abraham Lincoln, who preserved the union and abolished slavery in 1863. Climb the stone stairs to the neoclassical Memorial Building to find the Symbolic Birth Cabin, a recreation of the one-room cabin where Lincoln was born. Nearby, visit a historic log cabin on the farm where he lived until age eight. Hike the park’s picturesque wooded trails, and spot the “sinking spring” where water cascades into a dark cave—once the source of the Lincoln family’s drinking water. Two visitor centers explore the humble beginnings of the future 16th president through exhibits and video.

Accessibility: The Memorial Building can be reached via a wooden boardwalk and an accessible walking trail. The visitor centers are both accessible as well. A cement sidewalk with a 5% grade leads to the Sinking Spring. One step is required to access the Boyhood Home cabin.

A wide stone staircase leads up to a large, classical-style memorial building surrounded by green trees and hedges. Three people stand near the top of the stairs in front of the entrance.
