Charles Young Birthplace Cabin

Barriers meant little to Brigadier General Charles Young. He was the third African American to graduate from West Point, the first to become a US Army colonel, the first to serve as military attaché, and the first to superintend a National Park. He was born to enslaved parents in what is now the Charles Young Birthplace Cabin in Mays Lick. Peek into 19th-century life with a guided tour (by appointment only) of this one-room log cabin with a brick fireplace, a small sleeping loft, and housewares from the era.
