Ed Hamilton Sculpture – Abraham Lincoln

The Lincoln Memorial at Waterfront Park is a serene spot to rest and reflect on the banks of the Ohio River. The park centers on a 12-foot bronze statue of President Lincoln seated on a sculpted rock with his hat at his side, gazing thoughtfully toward the water. Granite benches behind him bear four famous Lincoln quotes. Bas-relief plaques illustrate his ties to Kentucky, from his childhood on the frontier to a haunting scene of enslaved and shackled men on a riverboat—a sight that Lincoln witnessed on the Ohio River in 1841.

This statue was created by internationally acclaimed sculptor Ed Hamilton, who also crafted the York statue on the Louisville riverfront. He is a highly sought-after local artist, responsible for striking depictions of Martin Luther King, Jr., Booker T. Washington, and boxer Joe Louis.

Accessibility: The memorial site includes paved pathways that are accessible to all.
