Famous Bistro

At The Famous Bistro, Mediterranean flavors meet Kentucky hospitality in a 1940s downtown building. Once the site of the Parrish Bookstore (later Gant’s Bookstore) established in 1873, the original building was lost to a fire in 1940. The bookstore owners went on to found Gant and Butterfield, an office supply firm that outfitted the New Daviess County Courthouse in the 1960s.

As for the rebuilt 1940 building, it was home to various commercial stores until The Famous Bistro opened its doors in 1993. This family-owned Owensboro gem serves scratch-made cuisine in an intimate space adorned with eclectic Greek art and photos. Savor locally-sourced steaks, fresh seafood, or specialties like flaky spanakopita bites and Athena pizza with fresh garlic, feta, and balsamic glaze. On sunny days, the streetfront patio offers the perfect spot to sip a local beer and watch the world go by.
