Henry A. Tandy Centennial Park (Formerly Cheapside)

In downtown Lexington, Henry A. Tandy Centennial Park welcomes locals and visitors for weekly events, like the Lexington Farmers’ Market and Thursday Night Live, an outdoor happy hour, vendor fair, and music celebration. The grassy lawn and glass-covered pavilion make it a favorite gathering spot under the shade and historic architecture.

The park’s namesake was born into slavery but later became a successful masonry entrepreneur and one of the wealthiest Black men in Kentucky. Look for his company’s stonework around Lexington, like at the adjacent Old Fayette County Courthouse.

Accessibility: The park is primarily paved and accessible for those with mobility challenges.

A bronze statue of John Cabell Breckinridge stands on a stone pedestal in a plaza surrounded by historic buildings, plants, and trees under a partly cloudy sky.
