National Underground Railroad Museum

The courage of the enslaved freedom seekers fleeing north—and of those who provided safe passage along the way—is one of the most pivotal chapters in American history. Go beyond the textbook at this unique museum in Maysville, located inside the Bierbower House, a documented Underground Railroad safe house. Here, you’ll discover the inspiring stories of hope and freedom through exhibits, artifacts, and detailed storytelling from tour guides. You can even see the small room where escapees rested before crossing the river to Ohio. The museum is open in the spring and summer for guided tours (be sure to book in advance).

Accessibility: Museum entrance is wheelchair accessible.
