Oliver Street School *(Private property)

From 1892 to 1956, this site was devoted to educating local Black children in the era of segregation. The red brick Oliver Street School, built in 1939, was the only secondary school for Black children in Winchester and Clark Counties. Here, students studied math and history, in addition to life skills like cooking, sewing, and business. Today, the building has been remodeled into private apartments. It is the only historic high school building still standing in Winchester and Clark Counties.

Accessibility: This building is now private property, but can be observed from the street level.
