African American History Exhibit – Pennyroyal Area Museum
Located inside a stunning historic building, the Pennyroyal Area Museum in Hopkinsville brings the region’s African American history to life. Its permanent exhibit explores everything from the realities of slavery and the Civil War’s impact to the resilience of Black Kentuckians through Jim Crow and beyond. Oral histories amplify Black voices through personal interviews, enhancing the experience. While touring the museum, check out the Bell Hooks Legacy Room. This exhibit features the personal belongings of world-renowned feminist scholar Bell Hooks (be sure to check out the mural in her honor, one block from the museum). The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday, and group tours are available by reservation.
Accessibility: The Pennyroyal Area Museum has a ramp for wheelchair access. All exhibits are on one floor.
