Roots 101 Museum
The award-winning Roots 101 Museum in Louisville guides visitors from Africa to America through slavery and far beyond. Exhibits showcase the rich history of Black Americans, with masterpieces from Nigeria like a Benin Bronze queen and galleries that trace the origins of African American music. Some artifacts are hands-on, including an exhibit that allows visitors to feel the weight of 400-year-old chains. Check out the recreation of a room from the Allen Hotel, once the largest Louisville hotel listed in the Green Book. The museum also offers guided tours by the Sankofa Players, which provide an immersive look into Black history through music, song, and dance. Before you leave, stop by the unique gift shop for museum merch to take home.
Accessibility: The museum entrance and restrooms are ADA-accessible, and there is an elevator for access to upstairs exhibits.
