Nope – This Is Not a Tropical Beach Destination in Mexico

You’ve seen the pictures of Tulum, Puerto Vallarta, and Cabo – but you’ve probably never heard of a hidden gem (to most southern US residents) called Torch Lake. Michigan has been hiding this from us, and now we have to wait until summer to bask in its glory.

Torch Lake

Nope, not Mexico

Here’s what you need to know:

  • The water is actually pretty warm, despite being up north in Michigan. In July the temperature can reach upwards of 70°F.
  • There aren’t that many public “beach” access points (lame) but there’s one in particular that’s easy to get to – William K. Good Day Park. For more information about access and availability head over to Torch Lake Township.
  • It’s pretty damn big: 29+ miles of you and the lake. However, during the summer festival season this place is poppin’ – they don’t call it the “Midwest Mardi Gras” for nothing. But hey, when at Torch Lake.

It’s probably a little late in the season to jump into the water, but one of you is probably brave enough. As for me, I’ll be on the side with a coffee taking in the views.
