Liberty’s Live Music Scene Hits All the Right Notes
Every second Friday from May through September, Liberty, Kentucky, turns up the volume. The Liberty Summer Music Series transforms the City Green Stage into a lively hub where great music and community vibes collide. Since its launch in 2022, the series has become a signature summer tradition—free to attend and full of Southern charm.

The lineup has featured some of Kentucky’s finest: The Local Honeys, Buffalo Wabs, Nicholas Jamerson, Wayne Graham, and Eric Bolander, to name a few. Expect a mix of Americana, folk, bluegrass, and acoustic sets that feel just right on a summer night.
But this is more than just live music—it’s a full-on community gathering. Families stake out spots on the lawn, friends catch up between sets, and everyone’s welcome to soak in the scene. Bringing high-caliber talent to a small-town stage is no small effort, and Liberty does it with intention—shining a spotlight on Kentucky’s musical roots and creating a place where summer memories are made.

Memorial Day Weekend Starts Here: Live in Liberty Music Festival
Liberty doesn’t ease into summer—it kicks things off with a bang. On Saturday, May 24, 2025, the Live in Liberty Music Festival returns to downtown with a full day of music, food, and celebration. From 12:30 to 10 p.m., the City Green Stage will be packed with high-energy cover bands playing everything from classic rock to country and more—all designed to keep the crowd on its feet.

The streets surrounding the stage come alive with local food trucks, drink vendors, and a laid-back festival vibe that makes it easy to spend the whole day downtown. There’s no admission fee, no tickets, and no rain date—it’s Liberty’s way of saying: show up and have a good time. Whether you’re posted up early with a lawn chair or dancing into the night, this annual tradition blends Liberty’s love of live music with the unmistakable buzz of summer’s unofficial start.
Fourth of July in Liberty: Americana in Full Color
If you’re looking for a Fourth of July celebration that is perfect for the whole family, Liberty delivers. It all starts behind City Hall, where families gather on the lawn, the grill smoke drifts through the air, and the soundtrack of summer takes over.

The day is full of local flavor: free slushies and ice-cold water stations, inflatable games for kids, and a sea of red, white, and blue. The centerpiece? The Kiddie Parade—a beloved hometown favorite where kids roll through downtown in star-spangled wagons, bikes, and trikes, stealing the show with every flag wave and patriotic fashion.
As the sun sets, the energy shifts back to the City Green Stage with live music setting the tone for the night ahead. And then, when you think it can’t get any better, the fireworks light up the sky. Whether you’re downtown or out at the Central KY Ag/Expo Center catching the reflections over the river, it’s a grand finale worthy of any postcard.
Lakes, Trails, and Campfire Nights
For those who crave a little outdoor adventure this summer, Liberty offers serene natural escapes just minutes from downtown. Lake Liberty, a peaceful 88-acre man-made lake, provides an ideal setting for kayaking, canoeing, hiking, and fishing. With a restriction on motorized boats—only trolling motors are permitted—the lake stays calm and quiet, perfect for paddlers and nature lovers.

Nearby, the Green River forms the centerpiece of the Down the Green Paddle Trail, offering miles of scenic beauty as it winds through the countryside. Paddlers can spend a day immersed in the stillness of nature, spotting wildlife and drifting beneath canopies of trees. Trails like the Shut In Road Trail extend Liberty’s Trail Town offerings, welcoming hikers and bikers looking to explore Kentucky’s wooded hills and winding backroads. It’s also a great spot to spot wildflowers in hiking season.
Tucked along the Green River, Soggy Bottoms Campground delivers the perfect home base for a riverside retreat. It’s more than just a place to pitch a tent — it’s your hub for making summertime memories. After a long day on the water, campers gather around the fire to listen to live acoustic sets, share marshmallows, and take in the clear Kentucky skies. Here, you’ll have access to 30 RV campsites with water and electric hookups, a bathhouse and even a stocked-up camp store (need snacks? no problem!). Whether you’re camping with family or flying solo with a kayak and a cooler, Soggy Bottoms feels like summer, distilled.

At the center of Liberty’s outdoor and event life is the Central Kentucky Ag/Expo Center — a versatile complex that hosts everything from horse shows and rodeos to the Casey County Fair. It’s the go-to venue for large-scale events. The grounds include indoor and outdoor arenas, livestock barns with wash racks, walking trails, picnic pavilions, and even a Green River kayak launch point. For visitors planning to stay awhile, the Ag Center also offers a 50-hookup RV park with water and electricity — the perfect setup for a whole weekend of exploration.
Downtown Charm and Cultural Heritage
Liberty’s downtown is full of character. One of the most vibrant highlights is the “Lovin’ Life in Liberty” mural by local artist Dani Ford. Her dynamic, playful design splashes color across a central downtown wall and captures the joyful, energetic spirit that defines Liberty. It’s become a popular photo stop and a symbol of the town’s growing art culture.

Just down the road, the Liberty Friday Night Cruisers bring a wave of nostalgia to the square. Held on the first Friday night of every month from April through October, the streets fill with polished classic cars, the scent of festival foods, and the hum of vintage engines. It’s a low-key, feel-good event where people stroll past chrome grills, talk shop with car owners, and enjoy a warm night among friends and neighbors.
Liberty’s deeper roots are on full display at the Liberty Bell replica and the Veteran’s Wall downtown. The bell was cast by the same foundry in London that created the original Liberty Bell in 1753, offering a tangible connection to American history. Beside it, the Veteran’s Wall stands in solemn tribute to local U.S. service members who have served bravely across generations. Together, these landmarks honor Liberty’s past.

Outside of town, the South Fork Creek Amish and Mennonite community offers another kind of heritage experience. In this quiet rural area, horse-drawn buggies travel gently along the roads, and tack shops line the countryside, offering handmade leather goods and practical craftsmanship. Check out charming stores like Showalter’s Country Meats, the Quilter’s Trunk and South Fork Furniture. Or, grab a bite at the Bread of Life Cafe & Boutique (the peach cobbler is a must).
