Stunningly clear crystal lagoons are popping up across America
Your neighborhood pool might be getting an upgrade. A large lagoon development company has been creating crystal clear lagoons large enough to boat in throughout the world and they are looking to bring these lagoons to communities across the U.S. The company, Crystal Lagoons, boasts that it can create crystalline lagoons of unlimited size with low cost and a minimum amount of upkeep. The company has already built massive lagoons around the world, including the whopping 20 acre lagoon (that’s around the size of 15 football fields!) at the private San Alfonso del Mar resort in Algarrobo, Chile. At the time of its completion, the lagoon at San Alfonso Del Mar was the Guinness Book of World Records holder for the world’s largest pool.
Crystal Lagoons has completed resort projects in Mexico, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, India and Thailand. In the large lagoons, visitors can glide over the clear water in sailboats, stand up paddle board, swim or simply lounge on the beach areas. Most of the projects have been made for hotel resorts or as part of the amenities at residential communities like Beachwalk in St. Johns, Florida where the lagoon is only available to the residents of the private community. But Crystal Lagoon’s newest project aims to bring lagoons to the masses.
Public Access Lagoons would transform city-centers into idyllic tropical escapes. The company says the lagoons can be added just about anywhere, bringing a beach escape to cities, shopping centers, parks, golf courses, zoos and aquariums– if there’s land, there can be a lagoon. Two Public Access Lagoons – the first of their kind – have opened in the U.S., one in Texas City, Texas and the other in Wesley Chapel, Florida.
Everything’s Bigger in Texas
Summer Lagoonfest at Lago Mar brings the quintessential beach day to Texans. The largest lagoon in Texas is open to the public for a limited time from July 15 – September 13, 2020. Beachy day trippers can rent kayaks, standup paddle boards and sailboats. Food trucks bring grub options and a floating obstacle course round out the experiences. The 12-acre lagoon is part of a private development, so it’s unclear if it will be open to the public after the 2020 season, but there are several other lagoon developments in the works in Texas.
Every Days a Beach Day
Florida’s soft sands beckon most visitors to the beaches that are, well, on the beach. Building a lagoon beach escape might seems a little extra but most beaches, even in Florida, don’t have water as clear and calm as this. The Crystal Lagoons amenity by Metro Lagoons at Epperson (the name is definitely a mouth-full) was the first Crystal Lagoon to open to the public in America. The lagoon’s grand opening was in 2018 and it has been open to the public ever since with the purchase of a ticket. The lagoon is part of a residential development and it may not always be open to the public. If you’re not able to make it out to this lagoon, there are several others in the works in Florida.
