10 Best Beaches for Relaxing

Relax on some of the best beaches in the world.

Navagio (shipwreck) Bay
Zakynthos, Ionian Island of Greece

shipwreck bay

Pretty sure we’ve got a video or two of this place. It’s known for the rusted-out shipwreck sitting on the beach. (Tetanus shots not tequila shots!) The shipwreck is real, it’s the remains of the MV Panagiotis. It ran aground during bad weather but was not smuggling illegal contraband or “cigarettes, wine and women,” as the rumor goes.

The Baths
Virgin Gorda island, British Virgin Islands

Giant granite boulders jut out of the water, creating coves, grottos and caves to explore for hours. Nowhere else in the Caribbean has boulders like this and geologists aren’t completely sure what caused it (volcanic activity is the most likely culprit).

Grace Bay
Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands

The water here is turquoise. No photoshop needed, it’s just stunning turquoise waters and soft sandy beaches.

Makena Bay
Maui, Hawaii

It’s Hawaii. You could plunk down anywhere on the islands and be like “yeah, I’m in paradise.” It’s just an added paradise bonus that the beach at Makena turns fiery red and orange with every sunset and there are no developments on the beach.

Playa del Amor (Hidden Beach)
Marieta Islands, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

A giant hole that, tada, reveals a beach! The hole is assumed to be caused by test bombing by the Mexican government in the 1960s.

Take natural beauty to the next level with–not just a beautiful beach– but a beautiful beach that backs up to lush forests.

Cala Mitjana, Spain

Mediterranean climate? Check. White rocky outcroppings overlooking clear blue water? Check. Soft sandy beach? Check. Sun and friendly locals? Yep, it’s all here.

Maya Bay

You already know Thailand has amazing beaches and blue waters punctuated by steep, densely forested juts of land. It’s also affordable. If you can get yourself there, you can lay around on the beach and eat like a king for dirt cheap.

Baia do Sancho
Fernando de Noronha, Brazil

Soft sand, clear blue water, and coral reefs teeming with life aren’t the best things about this beach. Baia do Sancho is free of crowds. It’s secluded– really secluded. You have to commit to getting to this beach. But once you’re there, it’s all yours. There’s probably no better paradise than that.

Golden Isles, Georgia

Southern charm infuses this laid-back escape. The food and local culture are a big enough draw, but to top it all off, there are many unique islands and areas to explore, including Jekyll Island, St. Simons Island and historic Brunswick.
