In a city as big as Dallas, finding the perfect salad is difficult. This is partly because you pass up tacos and burgers– both delicious staples in Dallas. However, a salad is a refreshing way to fill up on your lunch break.
I ate my way around town to find summer salads that are so good, you’ll forget you’re eating healthy. Here are 3 summer salads that are filling, refreshing and delicious.
The Common Table: Fried Chicken Cobb
What’s in it: Battered chicken, chopped greens, Nueske’s bacon, semi-dried tomatoes, avocado, boiled egg, gorgonzola dolce, onion straws, red wine vinaigrette
Located in Uptown, The Common Table is a sleek restaurant with a lush garden seating area. The fried chicken Cobb is a filling salad. I nixed the meat from my salad because I’m a vegetarian but that didn’t make it any less filling. I couldn’t finish the whole thing – rare for me. The onion straws and sun dried tomatoes were a perfect, flavorful touch.
The Hospitality Sweet: Kale Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette
What’s in it: chopped kale, diced avocado, quinoa, blueberries, candied pecans, goat cheese, lemon vinaigrette dressing (optional: grilled or parmesan-panko crusted chicken.)
The Hospitality Sweet is located in the post office in downtown Dallas. The dining room is cramped, you rub elbows with the people next to you and by noon, the line trails out the door and into the post office’s main lobby. The Kale Salad is worth the wait though. It hits the mark on everything a salad should be: hearty, filling, nutritious, a perfect blend of sweet and savory and extremely fresh. For a small treat, try one of the colorful macarons.
Eno’s Pizza Tavern: Greekish Salad
What’s in it: Baby Arugula, Cucumber-Tomato Salad, Olive Tapenade, Feta, Red Onion, Sport Peppers, Oregano Vinaigrette Dressing
Eno’s, the charming pizza tavern in the desirable Bishop Arts District, is a must-stop place for craft beer lovers. With pizza and beer on the menu, you might skip right over the salads but the Greekish Salad is one worth obsessing over. The olive tapenade is a fun twist over whole olives and the hunk of feta placed on top will make you drool. Pro tip: if you like your food hot, ask for extra sport peppers. You won’t regret it.
